Yesterday was a "snow" day, or maybe we should call it an ice day. Watching people slide around is a little funny, but after the ice storm that hit on Christmas Day by my parents, I don't think they're so funny any more. My mom broke her shoulder and wrist in a pretty bad fall.
On 5th Period Literature 9 met due to the late start. We watched a "Frozen" short; it seemed appropriate considering all the ice on the ground. Then we watched a short CBS video on the power of the inauguration address. Finally we discussed the steps we should take when we're reading something that is difficult. Tomorrow we will compare it to reading a graphic novel.
In English 10 we watched a fun magic trick. Then we reviewed the three elements that make a persuasive speech (strong proposition statement, argument and evidence (logos, ethos, and pathos), and organization). Then we reviewed the logos by reviewing the Product Endorsement Outline. I shared my outline on Dawn Dishsoap. We then took notes on pathos and ethos. Everyone is supposed to finish their outline - the logos and pathos portion.
In American Literature we only met for 30 minutes. That was about enough time to watch Whitney Houston's rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner." We practice a bit, and then took our quiz. I had hoped that we could start discussing the Declaration, but that wasn't in the cards. Everyone received a worksheet that asks them to rephrase excerpts from the essay.
Speech is in full swing, and I'm not scared to admit I'm afraid of how ready we are for Saturday. It feels like all the groups are struggling, and I really hope our commitment comes through this week.
