Thank you for the rays of sunshine that filtered through my room this afternoon. It was exactly what I needed.
In Literature 9 we finished reading Chapter 17. We filled out our "jury chart" to determine whether Tom Robinson is guilty or innocent. We identified the negative word choice used by Harper Lee as she described the Ewells. We also had time to finish our vocabulary for Chapter 18.
In English 10 we finally got both classes on the same page. It's taken awhile. We read Juliet's reaction to Tybalt's death and Romeo's banishment which paralleled Romeo's reaction. I don't know why but I can handle Juliet's weeping, but Romeo just annoys me. We also read the complication of Paris and Lord Capulet.
In American Literature we watched a few short scenes from Dead Poet's Society. (I love that movie!) Then we finished up Emily Dickinson and began our conversation about Walt Whitman. We had a chance to also study "O Captain! My Captain!" A fun class period.
In Law we finished our discussion of the death penalty. We had a chance to review the limitations to the death penalty - mental retardation, race, and age. As our discussion of juvenile defendants, we discussed the 1990's case of the Washington Sniper (the Beltway Sniper). Living while that horror was occurring makes it a unique perspective as the young man was only 17 yet was responsible for 17 people dying. It's so sad that so many people lost their lives. We will be finishing up our criminal unit next week.
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. See you Wednesday!
