I pointed this out to my freshmen, but not the others in my class. Notice all the seven's in today's day!!! I'm not necessarily into numerology, but I like noticing things like that.
In Literature 9 we reviewed the vocabulary words. I guess that wasn't done yesterday when I was gone. Maybe that's a good thing, because most everyone said the quiz took most of yesterday's class period. Then we completed the lesson over Black Boy and All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes. We will be starting the story "Into Thin Air" tomorrow. This is one of my favorite stories - nonfiction or otherwise. I also love teaching it in conjunction with the video I have.
In English 10 we finished up the presentations related to mythology. There were a lot of presentations in sixth hour, but that's because that class is so much bigger than 7th hour. Then I tried to do one-on-one conferences related to their motivational speeches. I see a lot of persuasive topics, but not necessarily motivational topics. Remember that a motivational topic is supposed to change our behavior.
In American Literature it was all about transcendentalism. This is such a huge philosophical change in our culture and literature, yet at the same time it's hard to explain. It has become so ingrained in our culture that sometimes it's hard to separate it from modern norms. So unfortunately for the students, it was quite a bit of time spent lecturing. We did take a few of Emerson's quotes and made a quick gallery walk of a quote and an illustration.
In Law we finished the 48 Hours episode. We then reviewed the civil law timeline and also administrative law. Each student then chose an agency to find three administrative laws that we presently live under. I chose the Juvenile Delinquency Agency and how they deal with adoption and foster kids. Very interesting.
Have a great Tuesday everyone!
