Now that I'm not so busy with speech, drama, and tournament obligations, I almost find myself a little bored. I'm a little more tired, and I seem to lack the energy that I rely on when I'm so "crazy" busy. Maybe it's because I give up Coke once the speech season is over.
In Literature 9 we finished up with our first section of reading (Chapter 1-5). We discussed the plot to contact Boo Radley, the things we learn from Miss Maudie, and the symbolism of Miss Maudie's "nut grass". We took our reading check for Chapter 5, reviewed vocabulary for Chapters 4-5 and also shared our words from Expand Your Vocabulary.
In English 10 it was review day as well. We discussed the terms, quotes, and events found in Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet. Then it was quiz time. I hope all felt prepared and ready. I guess we'll see.
In American Literature we started by watching my newest obsession - Little Big Shots. Then we discussed the American dream and how Candy, Curly's wife, Lennie, George, and Crooks (the focus of Chapter 4) could never achieve the American dream. We discussed at length Crooks and his own segregation within the ranch. It is rather clear in the book Of Mice and Men that John Steinbeck was a Communist, and when we discuss how the American dream is impossible for women, blacks, poor, mentally challenged, and the disabled, it's not hard to see his political leanings.
In Law we continued to discuss various crimes against people and property. We will be having a legal vocabulary quiz soon, but right now our focus is on the elements of a crime.
I guess the weather is supposed to get cooler. I'm ready for spring.
