I'm sorry I didn't up date this. With large group speech contest and being gone on Friday, I just forgot to get it done.
In Literature 9 we finished up with Lincoln's second inauguration. We watched a slide show of past inaugurations, and the contrast was just amazing. But the similarities and traditions were just as awesome. Read read his inauguration speech three different times - digitally, paper, and graphically. Overwhelmingly the choice was paper. It allowed us to interact with the text - circle words we did not know, take notes in the margin, etc. Several people also liked the graphic novel. Either way, we're going to be reading things that are difficult and we need to develop a set of skills to read tougher material. On Friday, Mrs. Meester had you review the Expand your Vocabulary, and then in groups you were to create a Mystery Box for Mr. Shimada. Ten items, some obvious and others a little more "mysterious," and put them in a digital box. One frame is to have the clues included.
In English 10 we started working on prepositional phrases and their modifiers. Then we turned our attention to our product speech - reminding ourselves of alternatives to introductions, working on transitions, etc. A sample outline was placed on Moodle to compare to. Then we returned to our prepositional phrases worksheet and we did the evens individually. Speeches will start on Monday as these two classes didn't meet because of the early out.
In American Literature we listened to Whitney Houston's beautiful rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner." We then took our Patriotic Memorization quiz. When all of them were turned in, we took our reading probe. Then it was time to review the background information for the Declaration of Independence. We didn't get too far, so we'll finish up next week.
In American Government on Friday they took their reading probe, and then watched the inauguration of the 45th President. Don't worry - I was watching from Avera!!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Congratulations to the GLR Speech Team and their outstanding performance at LeMars!
