Today was a fun day in that I didn't do a lot of "work," but there was a lot of learning going on. I love when activities cause the kids to work hard, but I just get to sit back and watch the learning take place.
In Literature 9 we worked on defining and applying inferencing skills. We had five stations with five different "Whodunnits?" Groups of four traveled from crime to crime and tried to solve the crimes. One person had to do the reading, another had to record, and those roles would switch with each crime. Tomorrow there will be a prize for those groups with the most solves and also the textual evidence to support their inference. Fun activity!
In English 10 it was a test day. From what I'm hearing, it was a test day for the sophomores all day - biology, math, Spanish, and English. I felt bad, but I guess that is the essence of Christmas break and the end of the semester. The last two days of the semester are used for working on taping the demonstration speeches and uploading them to our YouTube channel.
In American Literature we watched a Prezzi on literary devices in advertisements (hyperbole, allusions, and alliteration). Then the vocabulary groups worked on a lesson for the words dealing with thought and judgment. We got started on our discussion of Patrick Henry's speech, but didn't quite get it finished. I'm not sure we'll get to it before the break, but I'm learning to go with the flow.
The rooms are warmer today, the sun is shining today, and all seem to be happy today. Have a great Tuesday!
