What a day! I had so many book talks today that I felt overwhelmed, excited, and envious all at once. Overwhelmed because of the sheer number of kids who needed to get theirs in before the end of the quarter. Excited because it was exciting to see the number of books read this first quarter. Envious because there are so many books out there that I want to read now!
In Literature 9 we had a lot of book talks so we didn't get as far as I wanted. We did manage to watch a short video on the catacombs of Paris, which is close to the description of the "Cask of the Amontillado". To be honest, we didn't get much further. For homework, everyone is supposed to read "The Interlopers". We're going to compare the use of suspense in the story.
In English 10 we reviewed our vocabulary words and then took our test on Attitudes and Appearances. For homework, complete the FRONT side of a worksheet on essential and nonessential phrases and the use of commas.
In American Literature, it was the same thing - lots of book talks. We did manage to compare the two poems "In Flanders Fields" and "There Will Come Soft Rains". Both were written around World War I and both describe how Nature will go on whether mankind is here or not. For homework, read Mark Twain's "War Prayer". This was written in protest to Imperialism, which you're studying in Mrs. Hamilton's class.
The sun is shining, the breeze is cool, and I think a walk is in my future tonight. Good luck to the cross country team tonight at Districts. Leave them all in your dust!
