The day we've been waiting for has arrived - Armistice Day (A.K.A - the federal election for President). Let's just hope it ends the fighting, and that whatever the results, our country can come back together. In all of my classes we discussed the electoral college and what today really means. Hopefully the students understand the impact that this election will have on their future.
In Literature 9, after discussing the election, we reviewed #3 of the Point of View Workshop. We will be having a quiz over this skill sometime this week. Next on the agenda was the vocabulary words (3) found in "The Scarlet Ibis". We then discussed the opening paragraph in the story. We identified the words that let us know this was not a happy story. We also noticed the sheer number of phrases related to color. We filled in a bit of the CLOSE for this story, and we'll finish that tomorrow as everyone finishes reading the story.
In English 10, after discussing the election, we spent most of the class period working on our museum box. Here we will put all the information related to our assigned (chosen) individual for the Mayflower Project. This took most of the period, and we didn't have time to work on our Adjective Prepositional Phrases or rehearsing for our own personal experience speech. We'll finish those things up tomorrow and begin our speeches on Thursday.
In American Government we discussed what this election means. Then we walked up to the voting place and cast our ballot if desired. We also spent time just pointing things out for those that will vote in Little Rock or Rock Rapids. It was a beautiful day and I thoroughly enjoyed my walked. Too bad I forgot to wear my Fitbit.
Have a great day everyone, and who knows what we'll find out tomorrow!
