Today was a difficult day for me. The re-enactment of an accident caused by texting and driving drives home too many difficult memories. I'm not ashamed that I stood in the horseshoe and cried. I was also frustrated with those students that thought it was a joke. I know that those EMT's, despite knowing it was a drill, took it as seriously as if it was real. I hope it will change some behavior. It takes 21 days to make a habit, so make a promise to yourself and your parents/friends/ and me - don't text and drive for 21 days. Put your cell phone in the back seat, lock it in the glove compartment. Do something so you won't be tempted to look.
In Literature 9 we reviewed the evidence that was harmful/helpful to Tom Robinson's case. We discussed court procedure and the cross-examination of the witnesses. Also Harper Lee uses some strong language to describe the Ewells. We wrote down those negative phrases. We took our Chapter 17 reading check. Those in first hour need to make sure they do that before they leave today. We will finish with the prosecution tomorrow by reading Chapter 18.
In English 10 we reviewed and then took our Act II quiz. It seems like most were fairly confidant with the terms, quotes, and events. We then moved onto to Misplaced and Dangling phrases. Since everyone could identify the various phrases so well, there was no need to continue to work with identification. Now for the important part, how to write with them. We didn't have any time to get to Act III, Scene 1, so hopefully we can get that done tomorrow.
In American Literature we mostly talked about the speakers and our emotions. We did get a little done when it came to stream of consciousness, but truthfully, not much. We'll have to pick it up on Tuesday of next week.
We didn't have law due to the accident simulation.
Hopefully many of you will share what you learned and how you felt. This is an important conversation to have with the people you love. Remember to put your phone down. Don't text and drive!
