Tough day, but every time I come to school and spend time with you students, things fall into place.
In Literature 9 we started with a definition of wisdom. We came up with some pretty amazing definitions. The one we all agreed was "knowledge from experience with long-range eyes." We then applied it to Jim and Della. We read the final paragraph of the story and noticed O. Henry's repetition of the word "wise". We discussed how wisdom came from understanding that life is not about the stuff but the relationships we make along the way. We then discussed the measuring sticks to the word "classic" - literally, socially, and morally. We applied it to this story and several movies. With the remaining time of class, everyone had time to read the story "Sweet Potato Pie."
In English 10 we reviewed our homework in small groups. I think everyone is doing all right. We'll find out on Friday with a complements quiz. Then we finished up our Informative Speaking notes. (In 7th Hour we have a little more to cover, but we'll do that tomorrow.)
American Government started with reviewing their test. We had a long discussion in third hour about commitment and work ethic. Finally we played "Rock, Paper, Scissors" economics. In capitalism resources are inequitable, so no it wasn't fair that some had more candy than the others. We will be covering capitalism on Friday. Current Events are also required on Friday.
Have a great Wednesday!
