Bell's Scottish League Division 1

Dens Park, Dundee,

5th March 2006

Today's match report comes via Accies Secretary Scott Struthers who spoke to the web's two guest reporters for the day, Marvyn Wilson and Lee Hardy.

Lee Hardy commented:-

The boys were magnificent today, especially given that we were playing a much younger team. Wee Jamesy (McArthur) was different class. I was delighted for big Brian Wake to come on and score a couple of goals, after his missed chances in the past couple of weeks. It was a great performance all round from 1-11 plus the subs, young Ross McCabe, Scotty Tunbridge and Brian.

The opening goal came in the first minute. Paul McMullan did very well with a great ball up and Bomber (Brown Ferguson) did what he does best - nodding it in at the back post. A great start. We went two up when Pat Keogh showed great strength to hold his marker off and it was then a great left foot finish into the bottom corner.

The third came from sub Brian Wake. I thought his initial touch was a bit heavy, but he then produced a nice dink over the goalkeeper and it was a great finish. I just wish he had done it like that last week! Dundee pulled one back through Lee Wilkie straight away but we went back up the park and big Brian scored another following up well after more good work. But Dundee went back up the park and sub Wilkie netted another to make it 4-2 us.

To come to Dens with a much younger team than normal and to then turn in an impressive display like that will have given the gaffer (Billy Reid) a headache for Thursday's cup tie, but overall delighted with the performance by everyone today.

Marvyn Wilson commented:-

From the first whistle Hamilton had too much in every department and were running over the top of Dundee. There were some great debuts for Scott Agnew, Craig Galloway and young Ross McCabe who replaced the injured Scott MacKenzie midway through the first half. It's a bonus for the club to get three young lads blooded like that and I felt overall we were too strong and it was a great performance by all the lads. James McArthur, in particular, was outstanding in the middle of the park. He broke up numerous attacks and was decisive in his overall play.

Our opening goal in about 70 seconds came after a great delivery by Paul McMullan and again Brown Ferguson popped up at the back post for his 10th goal of the season.

Big Pat Keogh showed superior upper body strength to shrug off Callum MacDonald and then had a clinical left foot finish to make it 2-0 in the 20th minute. The third and fourth goals came from Brian Wake. I was delighted for him. For our third goal, he found himself in a similar position as to last week, but today he finished well. Dundee got one back as the place went a bit goal crazy for five minutes. Another good finish by Brian put us 4-1 up before a bit of pressure from Dundee as they got another back. Overall very pleasing for the Accies.

Scott Struthers said, "Thanks to Marvyn and Lee for giving us their thoughts on the game today, in what was an excellent victory for Accies, our best win at Dens since 1933. As Lee mentioned above, it was a great display right through the team. Jelly came in goal and did well, he had some good stops throughout, particularly in the first half with a dangerous sun in is eyes. He did well. Scott Agnew, only 19 and released by Rangers in January, was very assured throughout and got stuck in, while 17 year old Ross McCabe, who came on for Scott MacKenzie who went off with a swollen ankle, also looked comfortable. Young Craig Galloway, picked up from Livingston last summer, battled away well over the piece too. No failures at all today, a great performance overall, well done to Brian Wake for his double, and more goals for Brown and Paddy too.

110 Accies fans in a crowd of 3540, well done to them. They never stopped singing and supporting the team throughout the 90 minutes and it was much appreciated by all the players and staff."
