McALLISTER, Willie (1916)
Overview
A Junior Internationalist when he came to Hamilton from Maryhill Juniors in August 1916 having been with Milngavie Allander prior to entering the junior ranks. Capped against England at Firhill on 22nd April 1916 in a 3-1 home win.
He was a right back although he turned out in both full back positions while in the red and white hoops. He was a fine player who had the job of trying to get in the team ahead of Robertson and Adam Miller, two excellent full backs and he wasn’t able to do that for any length of time and he was released after a couple of seasons.
On leaving Accies, Willie moved to Renton on loan. In June of 1920 he was appearing in the colours of Alliance League side, Johnstone, before a year later being transferred from Accies to St Mirren in March 1921 on a permanent basis. Yet another club used him when he signed for Vale of Leven in June 1922.
Debut on 26th August 1916 in a Scottish League match at home to Queen’s Park.
