KELLY, Dan (1914)

Overview

Signed from Bedlay Juniors. Lived at Jackson Street in Coatbridge. In April 1915 he joined the Royal Navy Reserve. He was one of 4 Accies players who were chosen in the Lanarkshire Select side to play a Glasgow Select in May 1916.

Joined Motherwell on 17th April 1919, having twice previously turned out for them on loan. When he left Fir Park he was signed by Bathgate and in 1921 he was on the move again, his destination this time was Bo’ness.

He was mainly played at centre forward while at Hamilton, though he could play in any of the forward roles. For many years he was Accies leading League scorer, though some critics felt that he missed as many chances as he scored.
