McWILLIAMS, Paddy (1902)
Overview
He was signed in 1900 from St Mirren by Albion Rovers. His Rovers debut was against St Mirren in a match in which the referee blew for time up ten minutes early, whereupon the players came back out and finished the match, some without stockings on and others were wearing no shirts.
Paddy was one of two players who refused to strip for a match against Motherwell as they were trying to get an increase in wages for the professionals in the Rovers side.
In season 1901-02 Rovers met Wishaw United six times in succession in the Scottish Qualifying Cup. The sixth tie took place at Douglas Park and Paddy missed a penalty in the match which the Wishaw side won 2-1. He was in the Coatbridge side which lost 3-0 to Accies in March 1902 in the Lanarkshire Cup Final.
Two months later he joined up at Douglas Park. A left back. Went to Bolton Wanderers in November 1902.
