Accies Career
Overview
Commenced his senior career with Meadowbank Thistle in 1993. Two years later he was signed by Dunfermline Athletic; he was at East End Park until 1997 when he linked up with Dundee. From Dens Park he moved to Livingston in November 1998. While at Almondale he received a Runners Up medal in the League Challenge Cup in November 2000, the Lions losing on penalties to Airdrieonians, as well as a Reserve League Cup Winners medal on 25th April 1999 when Ayr United were defeated 1-0 at Somerset Park.
The following year he moved again, this time to Partick Thistle who were in the Premier League, he came on as a substitute against Aberdeen on 8th February 2003 in a 1-0 win for the Maryhill club.
He came to Accies in 2005 and proved to be an astute signing on Billy Reid’s part. After spending two years at New Douglas Park he was released whereupon he joined the increasing number of ex-Accies at Alloa under Allan Maitland. In 2008 he was on the move once more to join Cowdenbeath. The season over, he was released.
A versatile player with a good left foot who worked the left side of the field well. In 2009 he was a team mate of Darren Gribben with Bo’ness United. While with the Newton Park club he was chosen to represent Scotland Juniors. In October 2010 he was the outstanding player in a Scottish Cup tie when Bo’ness defeated Queen’s Park 2-1. Derek scored the first goal from a penalty and was the architect behind the winner.

Debut on 10th September 2005 in a Scottish League match away to Stranraer in a 2-1 win.
