WILLIAMSON, William (1925)

Overview

A centre forward who had had previous experience with Heart of Midlothian before he was brought from Portsmouth to Douglas Park as Willie McAndrew’s first signing in November 1925. He was known as a prolific goalscoring centre forward. On his debut he was said to be busy about the goalmouth though he did not score on that occasion. The fact that he had had his gums lanced earlier in the day may have had a slowing down effect on him. In the next 3 games he scored 7 goals. His good form continued until the close of the season and naturally he finished up as leading scorer.

The following season was not quite as productive for him and with fresh faces brought in he was transferred on loan to Dunfermline Athletic on 18th January 1927. Tim had commenced his career with Glencraig Rovers then senior with Lochgelly United, from there he played for a number of clubs in addition to those mentioned above, such as, Broxburn, Crystal Palace, Montrose, Stenhousemuir, Dundee United, Accrington Stanley, Southport, Shirebrook (Derbyshire), Rochdale, Ebbw Vale, in 1933 he moved to the Irish League to play for Distillery (Belfast), thereafter he also appeared with Clyde, Alloa and Leith Athletic.

He was born in Pollokshaws on 7th April 1900. His demise came in 1976.

Debut on 28th November 1925 in a Scottish League match at home to Cowdenbeath.
