BOYD, Sandy (1897)
Overview
Sandy was another of the original side which met Kilmarnock at Douglas Park on 6th November 1897 when Accies played their first Scottish League game. He played at left back. He was one of the four who turned out in every League fixture that season. He spent a further two years at the club during which he appeared on only a very few occasions. He came from Blantyre and signed for Accies on 28th August 1897.
His career had begun with Hamilton Thistle and he was also attached to what was called Douglas X1, an Accies minor side. He was also with Crusaders then Cadzow Oak in 1893 and played against the Ayrshire League that year. Then in 1894 and was chosen to play for Lanarkshire Juniors alongside Willie Wardrop against Ireland at Motherwell in December of that year.
He was 5’ 6” and weighed 10sts.
Debut on 11th September 1897 in a Qualifying Cup tie which was lost 4-3 at home to Motherwell.
