Accies Career

Overview

Royal Albert was George's club before he arrived at Douglas Park in 1953. His play in the reserves was impressive but he appeared in only one first team match and did not show the same form. He moved to Albion Rovers in February 1956.

He played on the right wing and it had been the manner in which he played with Clydesdale Amateurs that had drawn the attention of the Albert. One of the many who did National Service at that time and George kept himself in trim playing in non-league football south of the border with Leytonstone while he was on Accies playing staff.

By 1957 he had returned to the junior scene with Lesmahagow Juniors and while there he again turned out for the club, this time as a trialist against Morton. The following season he signed for Queen’s Park.

Debut on 19th September 1953 in a Scottish League match at home to Airdrieonians in a 1-0 loss.
