Capped as a schoolboy at Under 14 level in 1929 against England, Wales and Ireland. He represented Motherwell and Wishaw District Schools at that time. Brother of Tommy. He was a centre forward, who appeared like his brother, during the hostilities.
Debut on 7th October 1944 in a Southern League match at home to Albion Rovers when he scored a hat trick.
