GAFFNEY, Peter (1920)

Overview

Peter made his debut at the close of season 1919-20 while attached to Bo’ness. Prior to joining the Newton Park combine he was in the junior grade with Loanhead Mayflower.

A sturdy centre half who was signed in time to play at the start of the new season. The tallest member of the playing staff at that time at 5’11” and the scales stopped at 12sts 7lbs. Never quite hit it off at Douglas Park and at the start of the 1921-22 season he was signed by Alloa Athletic.

His next move took him to Dunfermline Athletic in 1922. He next journeyed south where he turned out for Doncaster Rovers in 1923. Thereafter he played for a succession of English clubs in the following order, Denaby United, February 1924, Barrow June 1924, New Brighton April 1925, Coventry City 1926, Ashington 1927, Torquay United close season of 1927 and finally Aldershot in November of the same year. In the case of Torquay, it was their first season in the English League. Born at Straiton in 1900.

Debut on 14th April 1920 in a Scottish League fixture at home to Queen’s Park.
