STEWART, George (1942)
Overview
From Chirnside, George was born there on October 18th 1920. He was a real capture for Accies when he came to Douglas Park in 1942 as a promising youngster, though the war years meant that he did not play too many times for the club.
It was sufficient for him to be taken to Brentford where he remained until 1948 when in March that year Queen’s Park Rangers signed him. Never a regular there, 38 first team outings in five years underlines that, he made yet another move, in January 1953 when he joined Shrewsbury. He played at centre forward in a Scottish Select side versus an English Select in Bombay in 1944 when a Brentford player.
Debut on 22nd August 1942 in a Southern League match at Celtic Park.
