1997-11-29 Dundee

Accies 0, Dundee 4

29 November, 1997

If this is to be Scott McCulloch's last game for Accies, it's one we will always remember. Accies lost to the league leaders so emphatically because, basically, Dundee were the far better team from start to finish.

Dundee dominated the early stages without really threatening the Accies goal and it was ironic that their opening goal came when Accies were playing their best football. It happened when James Grady skinned Accies down the left and beat Fergie at his near post. It looked to me as though big Scott deflected the ball into the net, but the goal was credited to Grady.

In the second half, Dundee really took control and Grady scored two more goals, one from a penalty, to complete his hat-trick. The third goal, however definitely was scored by Scott McCulloch, when he chested a cross over Allan Ferguson.

Apart from this, Scott was probably Accies best player, as he was the only one who really attacked the Dundee defence. Accies registered two good shots in the second half, one a cracker from Scott and a volley from Gary Clark which went narrowly over. Dundee also nearly scored on a couple of occasions, and the scoreline did not flatter them at all.

In a comic episode at the end of the game, the match sponsor awarded the man of the match award to David Craig. He was OK, but it was a bit daft, given the result.

Elsewhere, Raith Rovers and Falkirk both lost as well, so Accies are still second in the league.

ACCIES : Ferguson, Hillcoat, Renicks, McEntegart, McCulloch, Craig, Clark, Sherry (McKenzie 69), Ritchie (McCormick 59), Thomson, Cunnington (McQuade 66)
