Overview

He had been with Newarthill Hearts when Motherwell signed him in July 1949. His next move was to Stirling in May 1950. The fee when Johnny joined Accies from Stirling Albion in October 1951 was £575. He signed about the same time as Bobby Cunning and the two of them formed the left wing for a spell.

Debut on 27th October 1951 in a Scottish League match away to Alloa Athletic in a 3-2 loss.
