McFARLANE, James (1906)

Overview

Wishaw Amateurs to Bellshill Athletic then Accies in 1906.

While at Bellshill he played in a Trial Match for the Lanarkshire Junior League who were due to meet an Ireland XI in September 1904, he was not selected to play against the Irish, though he did score in the trial in a 2-1 loss to the “A” side.

Initially he was a reserve full back with Willie Brownlie and Bob Thomson being the regulars, then Brownlie was out with an injury and James was brought in and he proved to be a more than capable deputy to such an extent that when the new season started he was played at right back with Brownlie crossing to the left. Jock Davie then came on he scene and from then his appearances grew less. Many felt that he was worth more games than he got while at Hamilton.

Debut on 3rd January 1906 in a West of Scotland League match away to Motherwell.
