HASTIE, Johnny (1910)

Overview

Was signed by the club near the end of season 1909-10 when he appeared at outside left. Not a great deal of information is available about him, despite the fact that the following season he played for the club in the Final of the Scottish Cup, by this time he was an inside forward. Prior to the big Cup Final he appeared in the County Cup Final against Wishaw Thistle and was presented with a winners medal.

He had been with Dykehead and Heart of Midlothian before joining up at Hamilton. Didn’t spend a lot of his playing career with Accies and returned to Dykehead in October 1912. Another of the many players from Shotts who appeared for Accies in the early part of the century. Johnny was said to chew tobacco while he played, no chewing gum in those days, and in the Semi-Final in 1911 it was reported that he borrowed some from one of the spectators to keep him going.

Debut on 20th April 1910 in a Scottish League match at Aberdeen.
