McMENEMY, Frank (1930)
Overview
Frank was the son of the Celtic great, Jimmy McMenemy. A left half, Frank joined Accies from Burnbank Athletic in 1929. He had been capped as a junior against Ireland. Following his Hamilton debut it was felt that although he had good ball control he was rather on the slow side.
After three years he was allowed to leave Douglas Park. Before doing so he played with Dalbeattie Star in May 1932 against Mid-Annandale, who were in fact represented by eleven Accies players. He played for Airdrieonians then went south to Tunbridge Wells Rangers.
In the close season of 1936 he moved between Northampton Town and Crystal Palace. Later attached to Guildford City. His brother, John, also played for Celtic and Motherwell. Another brother, Harry, appeared over 100 times in a Newcastle United jersey.
Born in Rutherglen in 1910, he stood 5’9” and 11sts 7lbs.
