Overview

In 1973 Eric Smith brought Ian to Hamilton from Ayr United. A strong left sided player, his influence was such that he was made captain of the side. In the four years he spent with the club, he gave his all while in an Accies strip and his efforts were much appreciated by all at Douglas Park.

He was picked to take part in the trial at Brockville in 1974 for the team to meet Italy in that year’s Semi Professional match. His career had commenced at Partick Thistle before reverting to Shettleston Juniors, from where he moved to Morton and then on to Ayr United.

When he left Accies in 1977 he was signed by Falkirk who were then in the Second Division. At the age of thirty two he became youth Coach at Motherwell in 1979. Still later he Managed Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. A keen golfer.

Debut on 3rd November 1973 at home to Berwick Rangers in a Scottish League fixture which was lost 4-0.
