JOHNSTONE, Archie (1923)

Overview

Came from Pollok Juniors in 1923, Archie could play in either of the full back positions. He was signed when Sandy Hunter was injured and played so well that Sandy was hard pressed to get a game thereafter. However Archie persevered and he went on to play many times for the club for the next few years. He partnered Sandy in the Final of the Lanarkshire Cup on 12th April 1924 versus Royal Albert and he had a winners medal to show for it as Accies triumphed by 3-0 at Douglas Park.

He was with Cowdenbeath in 1929.

Carluke born, Archie stood 5’7” and scaled in at 12sts.

Debut was made on 14th August 1923 versus Hamilton Garrison in a Lanarkshire Cup contest.
