MURRAY, Tom (1898)

Overview

Looked to be a useful signing in 1898 when he was introduced at outside right in the opening match of the season, a Friendly at Motherwell in a side which was thrashed 5-0, though it did contain five trialists. He managed to fend off another signing, Hanning from Sunderland, but when Robert McEwan got his chance to shine, Tom’s time was up. The son of a baker, Tom himself was a coalminer at the age of 14 when he lived in Lesmahagow, though he was born in Govan around 1877.

Debut on 20th August 1898 at home to Morton in a League match.
