DARGUE, Jimmy (1904)

Overview

Signed from Burnbank Athletic in 1904. Jimmy played for Scotland as a junior while with Burnbank. In 1894 he was described as a promising youngster while with Burnbank Swifts whom he had joined from Earnock Rovers.

He first appeared as an outside left at Douglas Park but was soon seen at his best in the inside forward role where he revelled and he was a joy to behold. He became the proud possessor of a Lanarkshire Cup winners medal in May 1905 when his penalty goal set up Accies for a 3-0 win over Dykehead.

Transferred to Glossop in December 1905. In his time there he made 7 first team appearances in English League fixtures for them. After furthering his career with Airdrieonians, Heart of Midlothian and Bristol Rovers, he returned to Accies in November 1913. When he left Airdrieonians in 1907 for Heart of Midlothian, the transfer fee was reported to be in the region of £250.

In the early thirties he was a scout for the club and when Jack Stewart, the assistant trainer left to join his father at Blackpool, Accies appointed Jimmy to replace him, a post he held at Hamilton until he died in April 1937.

Debut on 5th May 1905 in a West of Scotland League match away to Morton.
