BAIN, John (1913)

Overview

Came to Hamilton from Peebles Rovers as a wing half where he played admirably. He was soon converted to a centre forward and he was equally as successful there as Accies tried to replace the Englishman, Willis Rippon, who had gone to Grimsby Town. This was in 1913. Young Bain ended the season as the leading League scorer for the club with 10 goals, 8 of them while wearing the number 9 jersey, though 2 of them came from the penalty spot.

On his debut, the ground record attendance of 22,000 was set, on the occasion of the new stand being opened. He only spent one season at Douglas Park which surprised many. Later appeared with Royal Albert.

Debut on 30th August 1913 at home to Rangers in a First Division League match.
