DEVINE, Matt (1938)

Overview

Matt was a signing, at the age of 19, from Ayr United in the 1938 close season, though he did have previous experience with Royal Albert and Hibernian, joining the latter in May 1935 following a successful season as a goalscorer with the Raploch Park eleven. He came to Douglas Park as a winger, either left or right.

He was taken prisoner during the war. With hostilities over he returned to the club and went to become a particularly good left back. He was freed in 1947 only to be resigned again and he remained with the club for a further 3 years before eventually he joined Stranraer. His death took place at Hairmyres Hospital on 5th April 1985 due to a heart condition.
