Accies Career

Overview

An Ayrshire miner whose career started with Tollcross YMCA, he then went to Benburb Juniors and his displays at right back brought the senior scouts flocking to Tinto Park. Hearts saw off Queen of the South and Rangers to obtain his signature. This was in August 1951 on a provisional contract.

He made only one appearance for the Jam Tarts before signing for Accies in May 1953 with the club preparing for the First Division. He turned out in cup and league matches before a free transfer took him to Accrington Stanley at the end of the season, then Rochdale in 1955 and finally in 1959 he joined Oldham Athletic.

His last known club was Rossendale United in the early 60’s. During his time in England he clocked up over two hundred league appearances.

Born in Glasgow on 22nd April 1930.

Debut on 3rd October 1953 at home to Dundee in a Scottish League match which was lost 3-2.
