McNAIR, Willie (1905)

Overview

Willie was Renfrew born and was with Forth Rangers prior to being signed by Celtic in January 1905, four months before his 20th birthday. With only a single League outing for Celtic he came to Douglas Park on loan in December of 1905 and proved to be a more than useful signing.

At the start of the new season he went on to play for East Stirling. With a season behind him he moved south to Tottenham Hotspur and while there he was converted from a left winger to centre forward. He returned to Scotland after a year at White Hart Lane and was signed by Aberdeen in May 1908. His last match for them was on Christmas Day that year.

For some reason he was suspended sine die and once again headed south where he appeared for Reading. His suspension must have been lifted because he came back north and joined Alloa, on being freed by them in February 1909 he again teamed up with his former colleagues at Reading.

Debut on 23rd December 1905 in a Scottish League match at home to Vale of Leven in which he scored twice.
