McLUCKIE, James (1908)

Overview

Born in Glasgow on 1st January 1878, he had links with Jordanhill. Jimmy or “Jasper” as he was known south of Hadrian’s Wall, was in the veteran stage when he came to Hamilton.

He had been with Bury, at which time he played for the Anglo Scots against the Home Scots on 20th March 1901, and most notably Aston Villa and finally in England with Plymouth Argyle, before he returned to Scotland in 1905 and played for Dundee and then Third Lanark prior to moving to Douglas Park.

He was a tremendous influence on the young players at Hamilton. A tall man, he had splendid ball control.

By 1917 he had become a sergeant with the Canadian forces. Following his discharge from the Canadian Army he resided in Hamilton, Ontario. He later moved to New York, there illness overtook him and an operation became necessary, this proved unsuccessful and he passed away in the hospital, this was in 1923 while still a young man.

Debut on 19th December 1908 in a Scottish League match at home to Morton in which he scored.
