PATERSON, William (1913)

Overview

Signed from the Glasgow junior side, Petershill before season 1913-14 opened. During World War 1, he served with the Royal Artillery. He had also been with Earnock Rovers prior to the Glasgow junior eleven. Transferred to Motherwell in July 1919.

As he was stationed in the Liverpool area during the Great War, he turned out for Liverpool FC on a number of occasions. He was a talented wing half who pleased the terracing critics at Douglas Park with his attitude and commitment. He went to America where he continued to play. In August 1924 he returned to Scotland. In 1925 he was transferred to Charlton Athletic who were in the English Third Division at that time. Next attached to Bostall Heath.

Born in Hamilton.

Debut on 18th October 1913 in a Scottish League match at home to Heart of Midlothian.
