BLACK, Willie (1909)

Overview

Started with a club called Enfield Star and was then a junior with Dalziel Rovers. In 1902 he was chosen to play for the Lanarkshire League versus the Irish League. He commenced his senior career with Queen's Park in 1903 making 11 League appearances for the Spiders, he was then signed by Celtic in April 1904, there he turned out in 10 League matches before a bad injury ended his Parkhead career.

A further move took him to Kilmarnock and it was from there that he came to Douglas Park where his displays at right half enabled him to command a regular place in the team. Season 1910-11 opened with him in his usual position before Phil Watson took over towards the end of the season and indeed Phil played there in the Cup Final.

Willie then moved back to Ayrshire where he joined Ayr Parkhouse in May 1910, then when the two Ayr sides amalgamated he came under the banner of Ayr United in August 1910. Then with Annbank in 1913 and Thornhill the next year.
