DAVIE, Jock (1906)

Overview

A marvellous servant to Accies from the time he joined them in 1906 from Renfrew Victoria, though he came from Tannochside.

Jock played for the Renfrew side in the Scottish Junior Cup Final in 1905 versus Ashfield, who won 2-1. He was also capped for Scotland as a junior. He collected a Lanarkshire Cup winners medal in 1910 after two drawn games against Wishaw Thistle when it was decided that the clubs should be joint winners. The previous year he was in the Accies side which lost to Airdrieonians at the same stage, also after a replay.

Could play in either of the full back positions. He was the leading scorer in the Scottish Cup competition for Accies when they reached the Final in April 1911 against Celtic. A penalty or free kick specialist.

In 1911 he won the place kick competition at Newton Sports when his dead ball kick went over 183 feet in distance. Travelled as a guest player with Celtic on their continental tour in May 1911. In February 1912 he was temporarily transferred to Raith Rovers to assist them in the Scottish Cup as he was not cup tied with Accies at that time.

He was picked for the Lanarkshire players side from the county which met a team of Larkhall senior players attached to senior clubs in the county in a match at Douglas Park on 30th April 1912. In October 1913 he was with Dumbarton. His nephew, Alex Davie, while with Royal Albert 40 years later, played a trial for Accies without being signed, he too was a full back.

Debut on 9th May 1906 in a West of Scotland League match away to Morton.
