KINNEAR, Davie (1941)

Overview

He appeared during Accies Summer Cup campaign in 1941 when he partnered Morton Dempster on the left wing in both matches against Airdrieonians and in the first match against Rangers at Hamilton in the next round.

A former Rangers favourite he had played in the Ne’erday match in 1939 when the Ibrox attendance record of 118,567 was set against old rivals, Celtic, which ended 2-1 and he scored the decisive goal that day.

He was born in Kirkcaldy on 22nd February 1917 and his career began with Burntisland Shipyard before moving to Raith Rovers at the age of 16 in 1933. In April of the following year he was signed by Rangers where he blossomed to such an extent that he was chosen twice to play for the Scottish League in 1937 and 1939. In between he was given a full cap on December 8th 1937 against Czechoslovakia, he scored in a 5-0 win.

Like so many other promising youngsters the war intervened and he appeared as a guest with Aldershot, Middlesbrough, Crewe Alexandria, Fulham, Northampton Town, Stockport County and of course Accies.

In May 1946 he moved to Third Lanark and six months later he was with Dunfermline Athletic. He then played briefly with Queen of the South and Millwall.

When he finished playing he was involved again at Ibrox as trainer and physiotherapist from 1957-57 until April 1970. Among his other honours were as part of Rangers Championship winning sides in 1937 and 1939.

He was 5’8” and weighed at 10sts 6lbs.

Debut on 7th June 1941 in a Summer Cup match away to Airdrieonians in which he scored.
