Accies 0, St Mirren 0: Saturday, 26 December 1998

This was another inept performance by Accies on a day when you would think twice about letting a Rangers fan go out. The whole game was played in very strong winds and heavy rain contributed to appalling conditions for the players. Steven Renicks must be either hard as nails or daft as a brush as he wore only a short sleeved shirt.

The team lined up with a couple of changes from the hammering at Ayr last week, with John Hillcoat in goal and Nicky Henderson back in the midfield. Colin Miller, as promised, didn't play. The result of this was a much more stable defence and a clean sheet. This was mostly due to two excellent saves from Hillcoat when St Mirren seemed certain to score.

The midfield again failed to produce many real chances - the best one fell to Derek McGill in the first half, when he chipped the goalkeeper but saw his shot headed off the line. The resultant corner was cleared back out to Steven Renicks on the wing and his volley was well held by the St Mirren keeper.

That was about it, I'm afraid. These are the kind of games you have to win if you're to have any chance of staying up. Now I'm dreading the visit of Clydebank next Monday.

Accies : Hillcoat, Renicks, Berry, Cunnington, Hillcoat, Thomson, Clark, Tait, Geraghty, McGill and N Henderson.
