DUNN, Alex (1898)

Overview

With Cadzow Oak in 1893 and he was chosen in the Cambuslang and District eleven which met Renfrewshire at Barrhead on 24th June that year. Also played with Quarter and while there he was chosen to appear for the Lanarkshire Junior Alliance League versus the Lanarkshire Junior League in 1894. Also chosen to play for Lanarkshire Juniors against Ayrshire on 21st April 1894 when he scored the first goal in a 3-2 win for the Black County. Later turned out with Royal Albert.

First appeared as a regular at the start of the club’s second season as Scottish League members. He was an inside right who showed some clever touches and he knew where the goals lay. With regard to his initial appearance it may have been near the end of the previous season when Dunsmore was given in press reports as the player at number 8 in a Friendly at Low Waters Park, Cadzow Oak’s ground on 9th April 1898. Only a year at Douglas Park. A registered player with Lanark in 1902.

Born in Hamilton on 29th April 1874, his father was colliery manager and they were living at Darngaber Row, Quarter in 1881 before moving to Coalburn where Alex worked as a miner at the time he played for the club.

Debut against Morton on 20th August 1898 in a League match at Douglas Park.
