Hamilton Accies 2 Stranraer 1: Saturday 11 September 1999

This will be a very sketchy report, as not only did I miss the game because of the supporters boycott - I don't know anyone who actually DID go into the game. Plenty of supporters turned up to boycott the game, but apparently only 37 people actually paid money at the turnstiles. The crowd figure of 503 published by the cluub was criticised as ludicrous by those that were there, but I've mentioned before the club's underhand methods of boosting crowd figures (i.e. they include the players, pressmen, girls that run the pie hut and all season ticket holders whether they turn up or not.) Incidentally, I've heard that the club responded to the planned boycott by distributing 2000 free tickets to local schools. This might have been OK if they had been schools in the Hamilton area - rather than those near to Firhill.

As far as the football is concerned, Stranraer took the lead in the 4th minute thanks to a penalty from Grant McMartin. Accies equalised through Steve McCormick 5 minutes later and Darren Henderson scored the winner in the final minute. In a gesture of solidarity between the players and absent supporters, apparently one or two of the players applauded the fans on the hill overlooking Firhill at the final whistle.

The only black spot was the fact that Steven Renicks was stretchered off near the end.

The team was : Reid, Renicks, Cunnington, Davidson, MacLaren, Hunter, Bonnar, Thomson, McCormick, Nicky Henderson and Darren Henderson.
