COTTINGHAM, Tommy (1921)

Overview

A promising junior player who was attracting the seniors in 1921 when Accies made their move to bring him to Douglas Park. This they succeeded in doing and he soon held down a regular place in the side. His performance against Celtic in the Scottish Cup at Parkhead in which he scored twice in Accies surprise 3-1 win was probably his best display for the club.

He was a prolific scorer with Parkhead Juniors from whom he had come to Hamilton with 16 goals from August to December 1921. He was an inside right. After a year at Hamilton he moved on to Luton Town before in late 1923 returning to Scotland to play for Airdrieonians.

His next club was Dundee United where he made very few appearances before he returned south to play for Carlisle United in November 1923.

Another move took him to Bo’ness in 1925 and when they appeared in the First Division in 1927 he featured in their side versus Accies. He was placed on the transfer list at a fee of £350, in June 1928 this was reduced to £50. Born in Lanark.

Debut on 31st December 1921 at home to Celtic in a Scottish League fixture.
