CORCORAN, Paddy (1916)
Overview
Paddy was a tough outside right who was afraid of no one. He was taken by Clyde, to Shawfield in 1912 from his local side, Mossend Hibernian whom he had moved to from Bellshill Athletic in 1904. While the following year, 1913, he was in Ireland with Shelbourne of Dublin before rejoining Clyde.
When the record attendance, 45,000, was set at Shawfield in a Second Round Scottish Cup match on 7th February 1914 when Celtic were the visitors, Paddy was at outside right for the home side. Later that year he was the recipient of a Glasgow Cup Winners badge with the Bully Wee.
He then went on a series of loan spells. While with Royal Albert, in May 1916, he turned out for a Lanarkshire Select at Fir Park versus Motherwell, then in August 1916 he came to Douglas Park. With most of the season behind him he then moved to Renton, Albion Rovers, (while there he appeared against Airdrieonians in the final of the Lanarkshire Cup which the Broomfield side won 2-0), Celtic, and again Royal Albert all while on loan from Clyde. Freed by them he signed for Accies again on 3rd September 1919, spending the full season at Douglas Park before going to Bathgate.
At the close of the 1919-20 season he, along with Willie White, was picked to play for a Lanarkshire Select against a Glasgow Select at Cliftonhill. He final clubs were Plymouth Argyle, Luton Town, again Bathgate and finally East Stirling, this in 1927 at the age of 34. While with Plymouth he was revered and was chosen for the Anglo Scots versus the Home Scots in the International trial match of 1923 along with his Argyle colleague, Fred Craig. He was born in Glasgow on 16th June 1893.
