Overview

One of the most sought after juniors in the late 1930's. He had joined Arthurlie in July 1936 from a Glasgow BB Company and won a Scottish Junior Cup Winners medal with them in 1937, scoring twice, two penalties, in a 5-1 win over Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. Three days later, on May 25th, Arthurlie defeated Cambuslang Rangers to clinch the Western Division Championship of the Central League and set up a match against the Eastern Division winners, Shawfield Juniors, at Firhill on 29th May in which the Barrhead club were triumphant by 1-0 in front of 12,000 spectators.

He was snapped up by Celtic in April 1937, but allowed to remain with the junior side and in so doing he was capped at that level. He was a technician in Templeton's carpet factory and was called up at the outbreak of war in 1939. The following year he was part of the SFA XI which met an Army team at Galashiels.

He came to Douglas Park on loan in February 1941 and turned out in a variety of positions although as a junior he was recognised as an outside right. During World War Two he played for Clyde and Morton as well. The war over he went to Alloa, Third Lanark, Airdrie, Falkirk, Cowdenbeath, Ards, Arbroath and finally Kilmarnock.
