Overview

Another former Lanark United player, Wilson was a goalkeeper and went from Lanark to Hearts in October 1952 while a teenager, a month after playing a trial for Celtic against Dumbarton. He spent eight years at Tynecastle, mainly in the reserves, appearing in only twenty seven league games during that time. While at Tynecastle he played twice for an Edinburgh Select, in 1956 against Birmingham City and two years later versus Liverpool.

While with Hearts he was called up in July 1953 to spend two years on National Service with the Royal Scots, stationed at Glencourse Barracks. He then moved to Queen of The South, before giving up the game in 1963. He was brought back by Andy Paton in 1965.

On being freed by Accies, Wilson helped run Symington Amateurs and in May 1969 they won the South of Scotland Cup, a feat they repeated two years later. In 1979 he took up carpet bowling. His next sport was green bowling and he was twice Club Champion at Biggar Bowling Club. He was a farmer in the Biggar district. On giving up the farming he purchased a cafe in Biggar in 1985. A few years later his sporting interests continued when he took up homing pigeons.

Born in Symington on 19th October 1934, his sudden death occurred on 18th June 2000.

Debut on 23rd October 1965 at home to Stirling Albion in a Scottish League match which Accies won 3-1.
