ELLIOT, Stuart (2010)

The Northern Ireland internationalist joined Accies on the 1st of January 2010 from Doncaster Rovers until the end of that season.

Despite concerns over his fitness he was a player who had a good pedigree, notably at Motherwell and Hull City, and was a sign that Billy Reid's squad was being positively strengthened for the second part of the season.

He scored twice in a closed door friendly against Alloa Athletic the next day, which Accies won 4-0 at New Douglas Park.

He then made a decent competitive debut, despite giving away a penalty, against Rangers in the thrilling 3-3 Scottish Cup game.

However, Stuart was never ultimately able to make the impact expected.

His next game against Dundee United saw him substituted at half-time and by the next game, against Rangers, he was an unused substitute.

His appearances became more sporadic. He appeared mainly as a substitute or, when playing from the start, would inevitably be replaced until it was decided that he should go on an "emergency" loan to Second Division Stirling Albion on the 26th of February.

He returned on the 29th of March but never played for Accies again.

When the squad lists were announced for the following season Stuart's name was not included and he was released, along with Jack Ross, on the 27th of August.

Stuart was a born-again Christian and he announced that he had requested the cancellation of his contact as he wanted to retire from football because of a "desire to go into the ministry".
