Overview
It was an exchange deal which brought Frank to Douglas Park with Sandy Hunter going to Fir Park in August 1928. While playing with Motherwell Juniors he had come to the attention of the Fir Park officials. Unable to establish himself in their side he was farmed out to Mid-Annandale, a Lockerbie based side, and there he blossomed and he was with them when Accies sought his signature. While with the Mid’s he played in their side which won the Scottish Qualifying Cup at Tynecastle on December 4th 1926 when he scored twice in a 4-1 win over Brechin City.
His initial Hamilton outing linked him with Willie Moffat and the partnership looked promising. Frank played many a fine game for Accies at outside right. One of three Wilsons who were regulars in the Hamilton first team at that time. On being released by Accies in 1933 he was signed by Preston North End. With only a season at Deepdale he was placed on the transfer list at a fee of £250, this was later reduced to £100. Frank was then signed by Morton in September 1934.
In the 1935 close season while a free agent he appeared once again in Accies colours against Heart of Midlothian in the Roseberry Cup Final before moving to the Irish side, Glentoran for the start of the new season. With the season over he again assisted Hamilton Reserves and also the first team in the end of the season Southern Counties Cup at Dumfries. In November 1937 he played a trial with Ayr United and later, in February 1938, he was signed by Ross County.
