DAWSON, Danny (1940)
Overview
Danny was a stuffy half back, born in Larkhall where he played alongside Jimmy McGurk with Larkhall Anchor of Hope and he was with the local Thistle in 1932 when Celtic signed him. He was dogged by injury while at Parkhead, indeed after being injured in 1935 it was almost a year before he was back playing.
In November 1937 his knee problem cropped up again and the following close season meant him leaving Celtic Park for Queen of the South and it was from the Dumfries side that he came to Accies on loan in the 1940-41 season. The local press advised that he was attached to Hull City at that time.
While in red and white most of his appearances were at inside left and on most occasions he was partnered by another Larkie man, Tommy Lang. Another loan spell with Third Lanark before he returned to Dumfries in 1942.
5’8” and 11 stones. He was born in Larkhall on 26th June 1912.
Debut 2nd November 1940 in a home fixture in the Southern League versus Heart of Midlothian.
