Overview

Came to Douglas Park in a double signing deal from Clyde in 1991 along with Billy Reid. Gary's price was reckoned to be £25,000. Among his clubs prior to that had been Falkirk and Albion Rovers, as well as spells in Malta with Slimea Wanderers and Australia where he was with Sunshine George Cross. He had been with Pollok Juveniles then Pollok as a junior.

Originally a striker when he came to the club, he was used in midfield positions also. He was successful in getting among the goals particularly against the two Ayrshire sides. A leg break in 1995 meant him missing quite a few games. He scored two of the goals in Accies 3-2 win over Morton in the 1992 B&Q Cup final at Love Street.

On 13th May 1993 he lifted another medal, albeit as a runner up, when Rangers came to Hamilton to contest the Reserve League Cup Final on a bitterly cold evening. The role of Commercial Manager was his in August 1997 while the club were playing their home games at Cliftonhill.

In August 1999 he signed for Alloa Athletic on a part time basis as he had set up his own business. While there he gained another B&Q Cup Winners Medal. He then returned to Hamilton for another spell in 2000 before retiring in 2001 to spend more time with his business interests.

He was said to be keeping in trim by training with Pollok Juniors and such was his enthusiasm that he signed for the Newlandsfield side and his first match against Arthurlie he was said to be outstanding. At the beginning of 2002 he had switched to St Anthony’s. He returned to Hamilton in 2007 as a temporary assistant to Billy Reid.

Gary was a one time friend of the Scottish Socialist MP, Tommy Sheridan and gave evidence against him when Sheridan was convicted of perjury in 2010.

Born in Glasgow on 13th September 1964.

Debut on 10th August 1991 in a Scottish League match away to Montrose in which he scored in a 2-2 draw.
